Description
The painting The Kiss, painted by Francesco Hayez in 1859, is a work famous for its deep symbolic value, as it represents the love of the homeland and the struggle against the foreign, a manifesto of the ideals of the Risorgimento: the couple is the representation of a united Italy, and this made the work so popular that Hayez made two more versions. The painting is on display at the Pinacoteca di Brera.
